I'm using WindowsMediaPlayer to play an avi file. There is sound but no picture. I tried using QuickTime, but it doesn't work at all. Is there any other player I can use that will work? Or is there something extra I need to download for WindowsMediaPlayer to show the picture, too?

You probably need the correct CODEC.

The two most popular avi codecs are DivX and XviD. They are available here:
http://www.xvidmovies.com/codec/
http://www.divx.org

Note: there are codec "packs" that include these and others - but I advise against using them. They can often cause problems and are generally know to contain spyware and adware more often then not. Get what you need - and you probably just need one of the two above.

You do not have the codecs for your video file.
Download Gspot: http://www.headbands.com/gspot/gspot221.rar
This will tell you the codecs you need to play the file.
You may also want to try and download vlc player or kazaa lite codec pack which have almost all codecs.

Go here:http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ and download all the free stuff provided. You can then play everything but video TS and a wet noodle. I fail to see why W{I}MP is a player since it requires tons of outside support to play anything!
