I am going to join the National Guard this upcoming summer and have until then to prepare. I am in very good shape running-wise. I can run a mile in the 4's and two miles in the 10's. However, I am very light for my height (6'2'') and am right on the line for the weight requirement. The requirement for my height is 139lbs, which is my weight. I also am sadly lacking in strength- I can barely bench 90lbs. Help! What do I need to do to prepare? I'm only seventeen years old, so certain things I am not able to do- keep this in mind. Thanks.

Just start running a few miles every other day and you'll be fine. Push ups. Start eating pasta and drinking weight gain shakes. Potato's are good for gaining weight. Weight training would be good for you. I bet the trainers at the gym will help you and give you advise.

The Army PT test has three events: 2-mile run, push-ups, and sit-ups. Your run times are excellent so you need to work on the other areas, especially push-ups. You need to do exercises that build muscle mass and have a nutrional plan that will help with that. The gym you joined should be able to help with that. You will do fine.

Start doing the excercises the Army does, like sit-ups and push-ups. As long as you can run, do the push-up and sit-ups and meet the weight requirements, you're good to go. If you want to pack on the pounds, eat more.

Eat a lot of protein. In the gym stick with the exercises that use major muscle groups, like squats, dead lifts, bench, power clings, back. don't worry about your arms, you'll work them plenty with those exercises. Try to hit the gym 3 or 4 time per week, but don't over due it. And get plenty of sleep.

Well you appear to be doing great on the running part so keep it up. Other than that work on push ups and sit up because you are going to be doing a ton. Plus it will build up your strength. Abs are especially import due to the fact that we use our ab muscles in nearly everything we do.

The guy above is an idiot. Honestly, if you want to build up and your un is already fine, go to www.intense-workout.com. It's a website full of good solid information, it's all free, and my entire platoon has started using routines from that website. It's simple, easy to understand, and like I said, totally free. The only thing you have to do is actually do it! Godd luck and thanks for making the decision to rise up above everyone else and join our ranks.

well the running is superb, so continue in that facet, do push-ups, and sit-ups, as much as possible. push ups will increase your bench weight and provide stamina, and as always sit-ups,not crunches, are almost always required
