We are remodeling our kitchen in old world style - wooden hoods are way too expensive so we are going to build one ourselves. Any suggestions?

Have you checked Home Depot and other places? They carry oak and cherry sleeves that go over a standard range hood and they are quite inexpensive

If you are planning for an island hood....good luck! I will give you a site that sells them with all the dimensions you will need, but you do still need an existing liner hood and fan

With some fine plywood, some 2X2 and 1X2's and moulding, you just may make something quite lovely!

Good luck!

Surely your kitchen cabinet supplier can order something for you. As someone else said, there is an inner sleeve that is the actual hood. The wood is just for looks. I've built a few over the years, when I had to build the rest of the cabinets too. You can buy something pre-made, whether it be for a standard hood or an island hood. Just a little bit of research will get you the results you want. Good Luck.

yes make a schematic come up with specific perameters for your range hood and then use oak to build it.
