VCD is a CD, which holds up to 700MB. A DVD can hold up to 4.7GB (single layer) and 9.4GB (dual-layer). That's 7 to 12 times more space. Both hold MPEG format video and both can be viewed on a DVD player.

Due to the size of the VCD, most 2 hour movies will be covered over 2 CD's and is in stereo. Therefore, you have to switch CD's in the middle of a movie.

A DVD can hold a 2 hour movie, extras, plus stereo and surround sound.

Always buy DVD movies rather than VCD's. DVD's are typically better quality. Most VCD's sold today are bootleg. VCD's were popular in the 90's. Now that DVD's are cheaper, DVD's are the way to go.

Vcd and Dvd are formats.

A video burned on a disc using a vcd
format, has about 1/4 the bytes of a
standard DVD.
Vcd looks good on a small screen, but
distorts fast on a regular or large screen.
