If you look back at your high school years, how much did the finals impact your education/grades? I am so stressed right now and I keep thinking that one final grade wont have that big an effect on everything.

I did great in school when it came to homework and tests, but when it came to finals and the SATs, I never did so good. However, my finals never affected my grades. I didn't fail the final of course, but I didn't do great either. I graduated with a 3.7 GPA and though I had low SAT scores, my GPA helped me get into a private school. Don't worry so much about it, if you're doing great in a class, your instructor is not going to lower your grade significantly because of one test.

It depends what you do with them, sometimes how well you did overall during the year (some classes don't even require that you take a final, if you have done well all year), where you are planning to go after you graduate (some places require a better grade point average (the final adds a percentage to the overal average), whether or not failure of the final will require you to repeat, etc. Just do the best that you can--it will be ok. Know your limits, eat, drink water, and get your SLEEP. There is only so much time in a day. We primarily learn through repetition. Just keep at it and you will do fine. And, don't sweat it to the point of hives.

In college finals often have a large impact on your grades, in high school they tend to focus on homework more. I was always very bad at keeping up with my homework, so having my grade depend more on the final worked better for me.

In the end, of high school or college, grades are not that important. Not to say you should do bad in everything. But as long as your GPA is higher than 2, you should be okay.

You are stressed. Let me give you the lowdown. Stress is a part of life, be comfortable with it. However use it to urge youself to study and prepare for the finals. Finals are important. That is why they are FINALS. They are the test that the course has prepared for, to see if you know the subject. They are very important-just as sports grand finals are. However they are so important that they are not worth getting in a pickle over. They are worth looking at them objectivelly and preparing for them. Relax, enjoy youself , relax you mind and body and remeber that even if you fail them there is plenty of time to do them again and pass. And then go into them with practical preperation and confidence. THAT you pass a final has a big effect. WHEN you pass a final has not. Relax and remember that it is a PART of life and go into it with faith.

In college they are huge because mine take up about 30-40% of my grade and I can go from an A to a C with just one test. I am waiting to find out and I am nervous until I get my grades.

Im a junior in highschool, and finals helped me my freshman year. I slacked off the whole year, and when finals came around, it was my only chance to pass. Luckily, I passed with a C+ average. Now, I'm getting a 3.8 for my GPA because I learned from my mistake.

What is more important is what you get on your SATs. You do need to know how to take exams because there are so many more to come in college.

Yeah...worrying won't help. If you pretty much have it all down, go invite your girlfriend/crush out for ice cream or something. (There is absolutely nothing wrong with ice cream in December!) But if not...study with said girlfriend/crush.
