If you "just" got the tree, it will take some time to produce that aroma. First, you have to consider nasal fatigue. If you have been in the room with it the entire time, you will not smell the pine. It may be more noticeable as you leave the room and come back in. When you start watering the tree and it opens up some, you should get your pine aroma. Like others may have suggested...yours may have been a timing issue. It may have dried out too much by transportation or time on the lot. Not saying you did not, but next time I would recommend visiting a tree farm instead of a lot. Less transportation of the tree (sometimes several states away) and better chance the tree was recently cut down, sometimes right in front of you. Tree farms can cost more, but if smells is what you want, then you have a better chance.

Sounds like you just got the tree. after you get it into water and put some lights on it the pitch (sap and oils) will start to come out and start to smell. how much? that I couldn't tell you depending on the type of tree and when it was cut. I have been going out and cutting my own tree for years so I'm not sure what today's Lot tree's are doing but happy holidays to you and yours ! :)

Funny you should say that, someone at work produced a "pine" wreath for me to smell today, and it didn't smell either, I guess it's some new strain of conifer. Hmmm. I LIKED the old smell!

Maybe it's an imitation pine tree. Are you sure it was once a live tree?
