Windows XPsp2 - IE7
Sometimes the pointer will jump from anwhere on the page to the close X in the top right corner just as I'm about to click on a link or scroll down the page, because I don't notice the sudden jump I end up closing explorer. This is not regular nor is it repeatable but it is an annoyance. It did happen with previous versions of explorer but seems to be more prevalant since I updated. Does anyone have a clue as to whythis is happening, and or is this happening to anyone else? I've run scans for malware but they all come up as clean and apart from this little niggle I'm happy with IE so suggestions of replacing it with another browser aint gonna be usefull, but if you know of any other cure I'll ask Santa to be extra nice to you this year.

Thanks John but the 'Snap To' option for the mouse in the control panel is off, good thought though.

Let me guess, you have an infra-red mouse?

I hate it when that happens

I also have had a bit of trouble with my mouse in the past so here's a couple of tips that helped me..
1, Don't use you mouse on a mouse-mat
2, Make sure the surface you use the mouse on is clean(the mouse moves by reflected light)so try to make the surface shine
3, Clean the bottom of the mouse sometimes you will get a build up of "dirt" which is just dead skin and sweat and this can make the mouse sticky or unlevel so the light reflects back to the sensor at an angle...
Hope this helps

Go to (Start / Control Panel), then select Mouse.

On the Pointer Options tab, there's a "Snap To" option which automatically moves the mouse to OK buttons in dialogs. This might be what's happening.

the only time i've had the pointer jump in different places is when i used to use a mouse that used a ball. if that's your case then you just need to clean the mouse... take out the ball and clean the 2 or 3 rods inside ... and will be all good again.

I got 3 solutions...
1. uncheck the snap to default button on mouse settings.
2. check ur mouse.
3. wait for the final version of ie7 coz the beta must have some errors.
i suggest u to check ur mouse first coz u have written that the same problem caused with ie6 also. hey i forgot to tell u to try unchecking enhanced mouse precision in mouse settings.

if you are on a laptop even the smallest touch on the mouse pad can send it jumping around like mad, maybe something such as this is happening here, and if i was you i woul check the mouse rather than the computer for broken components.
