I don't have much money but I have available time over the next few weeks. I live on Long Island and would like ideas on how I can help those less fortunate this holiday season? Any info would be appreciated.

some people give to Evangelist preachers who are super rich and do very little for the poor or other organizations that take most of it for getting it to poor people.
Or you could just know an old man down the street who needs help shoveling his walk. Or an old lady who just wants a suprise visitor. Then help clean their house or just stop by and say hello.
volenteer at the hospital and visit someone who doesn't have a visitor and read them a comforting scripture from the bible.
Just the act of someone caring does a world of good.
One lady said she saw this family dressed in rags and the little boy had no coat and it was freezeing cold. She bought him a coat and the family all inexpensive coats at wal mart.
They cried they appreciated it so much.
That way 100% goes to where it is needed.

There are so many things you could take part in!! It doesn't matter what you do, it just matters that you do it. It could be as simple as raking the lawn of that little old lady that lives next door, or ringing the bell for the Salvation Army. You could visit shut ins at a Veterans Home or Retirement home. There's also Meals on Wheels...a very worthy cause to donate your time to.

Donate so much money to a pharmacy for people who have no insurance to pay for meds that are to expensive to buy so maybe they can live a little longer and the pharmacy should know who pays full price for meds. that would be a true blessing as this is always a worry and stressor for sick people who need thier meds to stay well. start checking out the pharmacys and see how many people actually pay full price. what a nice christmas gift that would be for someone needy

Do something that may produce long term benefit to yourself as well as your local community.

Here's the idea...

Enroll into Jerky Direct's "monthly" Autoship Program. (Cost: $12 monthly)

Have the two bags of beef jerky (your monthly purchase commitment) shipped to your LOCAL FOOD BANK... every month.

Promote Jerky Direct's Autoship Program to generate product sales for Jerky Direct, and INCOME FOR YOURSELF.

As your income level increases, spend more money in your local community to help create/maintain a vibrant economy.

Information about Jerky Direct's Autoship Program can be found at http://davidcolyer.jerkydirect.com

Go and volunteer at a local shelter, but if you don't like the idea of being face to face, then you could annomously donate a gift to a child that's is a warden of the state(in foster care.)

Quite the opposite, don't have time so I gave money. The Salvation Army, Red Cross, Hospitals...or go on line, you should find something. But that is very sweet of you. God bless.

usually there is some benifit/ orginization that cooks food for the less fortunate during the holiday season... like for thanksgiving.. there were people who volunteered to help cook and give food to the homeless.. i think you can look up around your city and see where they usually do that and volunteer

You could try helping out in a soup kitchen. Try ringing around the various agencies and see what they need help with.
