HECK NO!
The Corps of Engineers is still requisitioning land to BUILD the expansions on! That should tell you how far along they are with the actual construction.
Further down the river in Plaquemines Parish, things are better ... the levee is as it was before Katrina. But ... they even they 'stole' nearly an acre of my mother-in-law's land, to build a levee with a berm. Great idea ... it'll make it stronger and all that. Except they put it on the WRONG SIDE of the levee. The Shaw Group contractors I pointed this out to had no idea what I was talking about. Someone read the freaking plans upside down and the Corps has never sent an engineer down there to see that they're being built correctly.

to some degree they the cor of engineers say they are but several people that i have met says they have water coming up from under the ground in their back yard so to see that for first hand i doubt in that short of time they are truly fixed just more then likely patched. I did hear it would not with stand another Katrina.

the documents media broadcast an excellent type of incorrect counsel about New Orleans for the duration of the last week, and the status of the levee equipment became fairly badly communicated. There are about 350 miles of levees preserving the more desirable New Orleans metro section and about 220 miles of them were damaged or destroyed by using Katrina. each of the damaged/destroyed levees were repaired by using the summer season of 2006, and the upkeep protected many reinforcements. The equipment is getting a $14 Billion improve that began in 2007 (once the upkeep were done). The improve is only no longer finished till 2011 or 2012 (this is an massive challenge) yet many advancements were in position at the same time as Gustav struck. those advancements would have kept the city from worse flooding for the duration of Gustav. added paintings is planned for after the improve, consisting of lengthy-time period initiatives to fix the wetlands and do different eco-friendly issues to furnish atural protection from hurricanes. If $14 Billion feels like lots, understand the federal authorities spent that a lot on a three-mile tunnel lower than Boston harbor for commuters. more desirable than 0.5 of up to date Orleans is above sea element. The aspects BSL are neighborhoods equipped in the twentieth century on drained swamps (swampland subsides after it really is drained). ultimately, the levee equipment (now and before) is a federal duty - no longer a duty of the city or state governments. particularly, the levee equipment became designed and equipped by using the US military Corps of Engineers, and the USACE is reaching the upkeep & enhancements.
