A 4 foot level works well but it has to be a good level. you get what you pay for and when it comes to levels, you should buy a good level. also, using a plumb ball and string is more accurate than most anything else. Gravity doesn't lie. good luck.

Any descent 4 foot bubble level should be really accurate. For cabinets its good to screw them all together on the floor first before putting them up. If you try putting them up one by one they will tend to go up crooked no matter how good of a level you have.

the most accurate one is the old standard 4 foot level. I think its called a spirits level and you can not find a substitute for it

laser level is the best by far!
