I've been feeling very depressed lately. I've talked to my family about this, and they said they care about me, but then ten minutes later turn on me and start yelling at me, telling me I don't have depression, blah, blah, blah. I'd rather not go further into the topic of my depression, because I really hate talking about it. I just don't know what to do about it. I really hate waking up every morning to do the same old routines, over and over again, seeing the same, cruel people. And I know my life isn't that bad, compared to others, but I really just feel so useless and worthless. I don't know what to do about this.

A variety of alternative medicines have proven to be helpful in treating depression. A recent report from Great Britain emphasized that more physicians should encourage alternative treatments such as behavioral and self-help programs, supervised exercise programs, and watchful waiting before subscribing antidepressant medications for mild depression. Chocolate, coffee, sugar, and alcohol can negatively affect mood and should be avoided. Essential fatty acids may reduce depression and boost mood. Expressing thoughts and feelings in a journal is therapeutic. Aromatherapy, particularly citrus fragrance, has had a positive effect on depression. Psychotherapy or counseling is an integral component of treatment because it can find and treat the cause of the depression.
There is some evidence that acupuncture is a helpful treatment for depression too. One study found that patients who received acupuncture specific for depression were significantly less depressed than control patients who had either nonspecific acupuncture or no treatment.
St. John's wort is the most widely used. Many studies on the effectiveness of St. John's wort have been performed. One review of the studies determined that St. John's wort is superior to placebo and comparable to conventional antidepressants.

Sounds like you are just feeling sorry for yourself. (Sorry if it sounds offensive. ) It is time you start doing something for yourself regarding this depression you speak about. What are the routines you hate, make a list. Who are the cruel people you speak about. Why is your life so useless and worthless --- Find the root cause of all these and then slowly step by step resolve. Work it out with a friend if possible.
The first step is always the hardest, starting with finding someone whom you can intimately share the problems to be resolved.

I'm sorry to hear about your suffering. If you're really desperate there are Talk-Lines (look in your phone book) where you can talk to people about your problems. Don't do anything stupid, the mere fact that you have parent who are yelling at you means that someone cares. First you need to resolve to do something to get better. If your not 18 then you'll need your parent's consent for treatment, if you are 18 then you need get to your doctor and start getting better. First, your doctor will probably want to rule out a physical problem that could be causing this. Wouldn't you feel stupid if you found out you were suffering from anemia the whole time? If your doctor rules out a physical problem he or she will refer you to a psychologist who can evaluate you further and help you get onto the right path. I know, from personal experience, that it hurts to talk about depression, but if you're going to get well you need to talk about it and face it. One final note, I know, again from personal experience, that people can seem cruel when you're depressed, but sometimes its how you cruelly interpret what people say and do that's really hurting you. You can get well, but you can't do it alone or by denying your problems. Depression is a medical problem that requires medical treatment to resolve.

I know the feeling...Oh I know the feeling...
I rather die then wake up to the same bull everyday.
If you always feel this way, such as I ... You might be bipolar ... set up an appointment with your primary care phycian. Talk to him/her about how you are feeling ...
Your PCP will probably give you a Medication and give you a referral to follow up on how you are doing...
I have manic depression aka bipolar. I always felt as though I was nuts until I talk to a dr about the way I was feeling all the time.
Don't be scared to say how you are feeling when a dr asks. It can be more helpful then harmful...
Wish you the best of luck :)

Get evaluated by a psychiatrist! Usually you need to be refered by your primary Dr.
I need more info to help you get started.
If your over 18 that's cool, no parents involved.
Then follow the steps above.Everything is confidential. If your under 25 be carefull any Dr. prescribes you; anti depressants. Research them! I'm on remeron, saved me from myself! Good luck & best wishes!
Useless and worthless are classic signs of the disease!

This may be selfish but I say don't feel guilty about being concerned or thinking you have problems because even though your problems may not be as bad as someone elses but they are actually worst because they are yours. Just try to beat this depression. Go for nice long walks, do things you enjoy, if your religious go to church talk to a priest or see a counselor.

don't worry, i have felt the same way before. try making an appointment to see your school counselor or psychologist if they have one and start talking to them. i know they can be very busy, so you should probably ask them where you can find another therapist you can see on a regular basis.
