I'm in the market for a big screen TV and I was wondering which type is better and the pro's and cons. I have heard that Plasma's are tempermental and break easily. Is this true?

I have read that LCD tv's are getting more R&D dollars and are taking over the marketplace...

Plasma is great for movies, but you can have burn-in issues since some channels have stupid "logo's" in the corner of your screen.

Plasma & LCD have way better viewing angles than dlp.

LCD's start getting more expensive than Plasma once you start getting around 42".

I went through the same process you are going through and chose a 40" LCD HDTV, since that's the biggest tv my ent. unit would allow.

I would start by understanding and further researching the differences, then looking at a site like crutchfield.com to compare specs on comparable tv's from diff. manufacturers. Go to local Best Buy or Ckt City to take a look at some tv's, but you can probably get the best deal online.

I went to nextag.com to compare online vendors & prices..

Hope this helps.

DLP!!! Plasmas thus far need to be "recharged" every five to ten years and that could cost over half up to what you paid for the orginal TV. DLPs are said to have a clearer picture from all angles and are more reliable. Be sure to visit several different stores and find out what the comission is so the salesman doesn't just feed you a line to get a sale. Be very careful either way because both are fairly fragile and if hit on the screen could cause spots. Good luck and I hope you enjoy either purchase.

it depends on your viewing style..... if you watch alot of movies you want to go with the plasma..... if its mainly t.v. then go with the dlp..... dlp's life is 10,000 hours before you need to replace a bulb and plasma's are 40,000-60,000 for a name brand before they are unwatchable.....
