I am talking about 2 - 3 pills each evening. How would I know if damage to my body is occuring.

(Please answer with the idea that I am inacapable of sleeping without Tylenol PM - I will deal with the addiction when I am ready. It is not as bad as it used to be...I once could not sleep without 5 a night. But for now I am curious if I should attempt to switch to an actual sleeping pill for health reasons. I will deal with the sleep issues later.)

Even moderate use of Tylenol has recently been linked to liver and kidney damage in otherwise healthy people. In fact, there has been some speculation about revising the "recommended" dose.

I would see your doctor for a full liver panel and ask him to check your kidney function as well.

The other issue is your inability to sleep without meds. You may have a sleep disorder, hyperthyroid condition, or psychological issue that needs to be addressed. Do you smoke, use drugs like cocaine or crystal myth, or drink at lot of caffeine? Are you anxious? All of these can cause sleep issues. See your doctor.

Melatonin is a natural sleep aid that you can use, but the point is that you need to address the cause of the problem first. I am not sure how addictive Tylenol PM would be, but your doctor may advise you to slowly decrease down your dosage.

Liver damage. Sorry you are having trouble sleeping. Have you been tested for diabetes? Melatonin levels can be upset in people with diabetes. My child had a hard time sleeping for years. She has endocrine issues. Don't give up looking for answers. Consider going to see an endocrinologist.

It could cause major liver damage and stomach problems... also addiction and at some point 1 isn't going to work and then two won't work.... and on and on and on until you may OD. But the worst is the liver damage. It filters out toxins and if it doesn't work correctly, you can die.

Do this;
Get The Step
Walmart has them for Christmas
Before you go to bed, step up and down for 5-15 minutes
When you wake up, step up and down for 5-15 minutes
After a few weeks, you will find you sleep quicker, sleep the entire night, and eventually need less sleep.

I now sleep only 5 hours a night.

Try Lunesta. Tylenol isn't good for you to use as a sleeping pill that much and that often.

You might want to get your liver enzymes tested. Tylenol can cause liver enzymes to become elevated. If they are elevated, you might want to look into why you are needing Tyenol PM's to sleep.

If you use it too much... It will stop working that well because your body is used to it... I bet you should switch to a real sleeping pill...
