when evening comes, i start to cough. i dont know why. i've never had this problem until this summer. i has to be an allergy, because oddly, i developed an allergy to cats which causes me to cough(sneeze, hard to breathe, etc.). but that's not the weirdest part. the weirdest part is that the cough only occurs when I LAY DOWN. i dont get it. i really want to know if this is common, or should i just go to a doctor. i thought this would go away....but i guess not.

It could be dust mites, an allergy to the pillow, an allergy to the detergent or stain remover you use(You're breathing in a detergent when you put your head on a pillowcase), or an allergy to what you are using on your hair or face. Did you change your shampoo or conditioner this summer? Think back. An allergy to one thing can make you highly sensitive to something that wouldn't show up on an allergy test.

Start with your detergent. Wash your sheet 10 times with no detergent. Wash them at least once with hot water. Then, switch to a non-fragranced detergent and only use a tablespoon for each load.

Next, look at your shampoo and conditioner. Don't use a shampoo with a fragrance. In fact, don't use anything with a fragrance. Also, switch to a nonfragranced soop, lotion and facial cleanser.

Fragrances and dust mites are usually the problems, but finding the source of an allergy means being a detective, so you need to think about everything that you have done since the summer.

In addition, it could be the products on the person whom you're sleeping with. When my husband started using a new facial scrub, I became congested at night and scratched like a crazy person.

You will find the answer. All you need to do is change products and eliminate things one by one.

Good luck.

You could have acid reflux. This does cause more coughing in people with allergies. The acid from your stomach is released in higher doses when you are laying down. Go see a doctor and keep this in mind when he is testing you for causes.

It could be acid reflux or it could be that you have developed an allergy to dust mites in bedding. Wash all your bedding in hot water, including the mattress pad, and tumble dry them (don't forget the pillow). If you still have problems, it is probably not dust mites.
