Do you see them in the streets burning US flags and screaming "Alluah Akbar"!

Now thats an attempt to "convince". Atheists and agnostics are sick of religious insanity. Some realize Islam is the biggest problem, but all see the religious root.

I, as an agnostic who believes that spiritual truths are an evolving thing that have not perfected in us, share my views because I think that people's current habit of holding rigidly to one belief system prevents us from making true spiritual progression towards a holistic philosophy that can accept and accomodate all of the religious texts and ideas we have and continue to create. Only through open discourse and integration can we learn and grow. But, on the other hand, I'm not exactly an atheist so this doesn't really apply to the question.

I'm trying to convince you to stop trying to convince me. Keep all faith based initiatives to yourself too. I also want any impressionable minds wandering through here to know it's OK to be an atheist. Most atheists have read that book a whole lot more than you. Some of the agnostics too.

As an atheist, I am not in the least bit interested in changing anyones mind. I am an ex-Christian. Why some of the atheists and theists on this site attempt to convince one another of anything or to bash and bate one another, I have no idea. I think motivations are near impossible to ascertain without some knowledge of the specific individual.

Those who believe in God. They already believe it themselves. Who are theists trying to convince, atheists or themselves? Atheists, obviously, since theists believe it already.

I hope they (certain ones) are not trying to convince anyone, saying "there is no god" really is pointless in terms of making me believe otherwise

We already KNOW where we stand on the issue. What's to prove to ourselves? That we "really mean it" that we don't believe? Ha... what a thought.

We don't NEED to convince others about our lack of belief. I don't try to convince others I'm an a-physicist, a-brunette, a-mathematician... so, not an a-theist.
