If you owned a thoroughbred and could pick any jockey that is still riding professionally to ride for you, who would it be? Would you pick the same rider for a sprint or a route? Turf or dirt?

Wow, surprisingly strong West Coast representation so far. All the guys mentioned are outstanding, though (except for Jara) getting a little long in the tooth. P Val is always dangerous in any type of race, Corey is especially strong on turf, and the longer the race is, the more I like Alex Solis. I've seen Solis fly out of nowhere at the end of a mile and 1/8, mile and a quarter, it's an awesome thing to behold.

Alex Solis great clutch rider from the west coast.Russell Baze would be a good choice also how could not want the winning est rider of all time.Solis because he can get most from a horse by a good ride positioning the horse and not hurting the horse by over whipping or risking injury by taking unnecessary canches

It has to be P Val, even though he is currently injured.

Many people will say he is great with a horse on the lead, but that doesn't do him justice. The point is that he, unlike so many other jockeys, is unafraid to put a horse on the lead when that is the most advantageous strategy. His ride on Adoration at 40-1, over Bailey and the heavily favored Sightseek, in the '03 BC Distaff, is legendary. Not to mention his off the pace score on Becrux over the turf in the Woodbine Mile, last fall, after not riding for several months. Not to mention a thousand other rides.

After P Val, Ramon Dominguez.

Right now, I would pick Edgar Prado. He may have only won 3 Triple Crown races, but he is hard to overlook in any stakes race.

Jose Santos is great on turf or dirt.

Corey Nakatani would be my choice. He always places his horses where they have a chance to win.
