The letter may arrive at the destination postage due. That means the post office will ask the recipient to make up the difference in postage. After that it might be returned to you.

By the way, there's always a chance that something can get lost in the mail. You can try to avoid this by sending tracked registered mail, or you can buy insurance so the post office will repay you for the value of the item if it gets lost.

Sometimes they will leave a note in the receipient's mailbox that there is an item with postage due that needs to be picked up at the post office. If you didn't insure it or send it certified mail, the USPS doesn't guarantee that it will get to the recipient, nor that it will be returned to you if you don't put enough postage.

Hope it works out for you.

It depends on the postal worker that is supposed to deliver the package or not. Sometimes the recipient of the package is asked if they want to pay the postage or it gets delivered postage due, but in most cases it will come back to you.

You never know for sure what the Post Office is going to do. Your package either will be returned to you or they might deliver it to the person you sent it and ask that person to pay the required postage.

I've had them deliver things before... sometimes if it was underfunded but close. But then I've had them return it too. Hopefully, it will reach you or your recipient.
