It can be dangerous for the elderly, children or people with compromised immune systems. My grandmother was a diabetic so she was slow to heal, and her cat bit her. The bite got infected as a result. She ended up having to go on a round of antibiotics to get rid of the infection.

I think the best thing to do, assuming you're healthy overall, is put peroxide on the bite, apply some antibiotic ointment, and watch the area. Make sure to keep it clean and dry. If redness or swelling develops, a trip to the doctor might be in order.

Hope that helps. I hope you feel better soon!

Blessings,

I'd at least go see your doctor if it broke the skin. My aunt was bitten on the hand by her indoor-only, up-to-date-on-shots cat (its tail got shut in the door). She cleaned it out well, went to work and had to go to the ER a few hours later because her whole arm was paralyzed and seriously swollen. After a course of IV antibiotics, the swelling went down but it took several months for her to get full use of her arm.

I'm not trying to scare you, but cat bites can be very serious. They're much worse than dog bites because they puncture the skin instead of tearing. Cats have nasty bacteria in their mouths and it gets trapped deep into your tissue when they bite. Just get it checked out. If you need antibiotics, the sooner you start the better.

If it is a deep puncture wound, especially one that does not bleed, it can be very serious. You will know pretty quickly as it will hurt a lot, become red, swell etc. If that happens you need to go the emergency room for a tetanus shot and antibiotics.

A puncture wound from the cat's canine takes bacteria from the surface of your skin deep into your body.

A cat won't ordinarily bite that hard unless it is extremely frightened or hurt by you.

Its bad only if ur cat has rabies, but if ur cat gets regular checkups by ur vet and has had all his\her vaccinations then there shouldnt be a problem. Wash the bite with warm water and soap put some neosporin and a bandaid and u should be ok.

Only if the cat's teeth go REALLY far in. If it's just scrapes you, it's really not that bad. Trust me. My cat bites me all the time and it's NEVER been bad. Now,if his teeth go deep in the skin, you might need stitches and you'll have to get a tetnis shot. That's when it's bad. But it's not that bad. I've gotten stitches before and my tetnis shot and they numb the area where they stitch(duh) and you fell the tetnis shot for a second. The only bad thing is it gets REALLY sore.

Your cat chew sounds like it quite is getting contaminated, try to be on antibiotics, heat soaks to the finger could help with the soreness, yet do not take this chew gently, cats have a superb variety of micro organism of their mouths, that could reason an infection, and a million ingredient you dint choose is blood poison, so i recommend , you spot a doctor , approximately it. I dont think of you will unfastened your cat over this, BE secure, SEE YOUR physician.

Just wash it well. You need to clean a bite wound extra well. Don't listen to all the drama. If LATER it starts to look like it's getting infected, THEN see a doctor, but for now...just wash it and cover it with a bandaid or gauze. If a cat bite was THAT serious, no one would own one.

Like everyone else has said if it has had all it's shots don't worry about it. Unless, it starts to swell, gets hot and turn red. Then go to the doctor. My cat had all her shots but she play bit me and this happened. I had to take some antibiotics for three days. This is not to frighten you. I'm just saying what happened to me.

not to scare you or anything but this happened to my mom. the cat was current on all her shots and the bite really wasn't that deep. however, she ended up in the ER where they admitted her and put her on IV antibiotics. and, yea, she had cleaned it out real well, too. after being discharged from the hospital, she had to be on IV therapy for close to two weeks. so, yea, a cat bite can definately be bad.

It could be!! Puncture wounds are not to be taken lightly. Did the cat have all shots? It could become infected. I would keep close watch on it, and maybe have it checked. I would wash it out with peroxide, and then put neosporin on it and keep checking to make sure it,s not becoming infected
