How can you give yourself a tattoo at home without the "proper" equipment? I know there is a way to do this, but I do not know how. Please tell me how. It would be greatly appreciated if I were not criticized .....

Yeah you can with a needle and the right kind of ink. Ive givin myself 4 already but that was when I was young and stupid so now I have all these really ugly tattoos that I need to get covered up. If I were you Id just either save up the money or wait until I was old enough to get one from a professional. Good luck!

Seriously, you really should have all tattoos done by a professional. Not only will it look better, it is much safer.

If you do decide to do one at home, you still need to use tattoo ink. You do not want to put ink from a pen or some other dye under your skin. You could have very bad reactions or increase the risk of infection.

There are several methods for home tattoos, all of them I recommend against and none I'm willing to share.

You're really not going to get results that you like this way. This isn't a criticism, but the reality of the matter. Tattoo artists go through an apprenticeship of at least two years to learn their art. Do you know how far into the skin the ink needs to go in order to stay, but not "bleed"? Can you stretch your own skin AND tattoo yourself at the same time? There are also safety issues that cannot usually be addressed in a home, such as sharps disposal. Please rethink this.

I would recommend designing your own tattoo and taking it to a professional to get it done.

You will never be able to give yourself a good tattoo at home, sorry to say. It takes artists years to learn thier trade, you would'nt do surgery on yourself at home would you? Think about all of the crappy homemade tattoos that are done in homes and prisons. You don't want that. Just go to a professional.

Please DO NOT do this to yourself. If you truly want a tattoo, save money and research a reputable tattoo artist to do the work. When I was a teen, many of my friends covered themselves in homemade tattoos, every one of them regret it now. I also know one person who was infected with HIV this way. I never put ANY homemade tattoos on myself, and am glad I didn't. I DO still like tattoos......PROFESSIONAL tattoos. And one day, when I finally decide what I want, and have the money to afford to get it done.....I will.
Just think this through, this is something you will have to live with for the rest of your life. Laser tattoo removal is expensive, painful, and doesn't always work.

I have a friend who does very amazing tattoos yet he isn't a professional tattoo artist. Some people are just talented and others just teach themselves. Personally, I wouldn't advice anyone to do it themselves because of the risk of infections, or the tatt/piercing not looking as good as it would if they had gone to a professional shop.

I'll try not to be criticial. But would you do surgery on yourself? Get a professional. When I was young we did the Love / Hate on our fingers. Regret that! But 40 years later it's still there. But if you must, google how prison tattoo's are done.

Hi Angle, It's really best if you have a tattoo artist do this for you. Be safe, and have it done right. I have 4 of my own.

There are ways to do it, but don't do it, they don't look very nice because you can't do them properly. Save the money and have it done professionally.

I know my opinion means zilch so if you do do it do it somewhere that it's easily hidden so when you realize it wasn't a good idea you can hide it.

Me and some friends did out own tattoos last weekend. mine didn't work, but theirs turned out fine. We made a tattoo gun that we found on this site http://www.rentyman.com/neatstuff/tattoo.html
and it worked.
