good question, but your answer is no, they didn't mate. Cockatiels have no set mating period, meaning they mate all year. Be sure you are giving your tiel plenty of light in the day time, and covering her at night.... you could, without realizing it, be causing her to go into breeding mode, by the amount of light she gets.
I would cover her at about 6 or 7 in the evening, and uncover her in the morning when you get up, see if that helps.
I would reccomend leaving the egg in there for a couple days, up to a week, if you take it away right away, she may worry about it and start laying more eggs... that sometimes happens sometimes doesn't.
she might start to get aggressive to you when you put your hand in the cage, don't punish her, its natural, and is just going by instinct.

hope it helps!

Birds spieces only mate with their own kind.. normally. Female Cockatiels will lay eggs with or without a male mate, the difference is usually with a male mate is that the eggs are fertilized, meaning a baby is inside the egg. The egg laying will go on in your female cockatiel's reproductive life with whatever kind of bird you have housed with her.

The cockatiel didn't mate with a parakeet, and the egg is infertile. Wow! I used to keep a parakeet with my cockatiel to stop her from laying eggs!
Unless maybe it's a parakeet egg, you do have 2 parakeets....

noo, birds someitmes lay eggs just for the heck of it. that would be like a cat and dog mating, it cant work because you have different chromosome numbers and you have to have two Equal halves to equal one whole creature. so that is why say a parakeet has 88 chromosomes and a cockatiel has 44, it couldn't work because it would not be equal, though it could create a new species, which would be unable to reprooduce. its kinda like a donkey and a pony mating, you get a sterile breed. but i am sure its just a freak egg that your bird is probably sitting on because she thinks its real!

Birds lay infertile eggs all the time. How do you think we get hen's eggs in the supermarket? If you want, you could fry it, although I have no idea how good a 'tiel egg would taste, and it's probably spoiled by now. I'd just throw it out and make sure she has cuttlebone. You don't need to worry about baby 'tiels unless you put a mail 'tiel in the cage.

No, I doubt any mating happened. I had one cockatiel and she laid eggs all the time. No other birds around.

Why do you want them to mate? To get baby budgies? The more your do this, it could risk your budgies lives really bad! I have had a female budgie called Sky. She laid 13 eggs in 1 month. Luckily she did not get egg the egg stuck in her but she did get very tired and isn't active like before. Please, do not risk your budgies lives. If they really want to, then let them but otherwise I suggest that you leave them alone and don't force them. When I just got my 5 budgies, they HATED water. Soon enough they will learn that you won't hurt them and the water won't too. My budgies ended up having baths every day! Give them some time! Hope this helps. Thanks you for reading my advice:)

It is normal for female cockatiels to lay [infertile] eggs when there's no male 'tiel around. Make sure you provide cuttlebone and/or crushed egg shells to give her a source of calcium and give her a good diet of pellets, some seed and plenty of leafy green vegetables and fruits to make sure she has all the vitamins she needs if she's making eggs. If you have any other questions, just see your avian vet. if you don't have one (which is a very good idea to have one) you can find one near you here: www.aav.org/vet-lookup Good luck!

They will lay eggs, even though they aren't fertile. It's a common thing. Usually birds won't mate outside of their species.

birds will lay unfertile eggs as well as fertile ones. If the other two birds are not even the same species, then no she did not mate with them, she just layed an unfertile egg.
