Very different schools of thought go into each one of those companies.
Toyota seems to be the most well engineered but they tend to be bland. Quality is usually high, economy is great but they tend to be overly safe and not ground breaking. The engines are well thought out for do it yourself maintence which is a great perk.
Honda has a more peppy feeling in the cars, engines are superb and proven and interiors tend to keep it simple and easy to use. Also easy to work on but sometimes you run into little honda quirks like difficult oil filters that are hard to remove due to the position.
And Subaru...designed for people who need the AWD, unique in the fact that they use boxer engines and well not the best interior or exterior designs but they are rugged...but suffer from weaker engine technologies and the power robbing AWD system. Unless you need the AWD and rugged travel anywhere mentality of subaru, I'd flip a coin and choose from Toyota or Honda.

The one thing (to me) that noses Subaru beyond Toyotas is that Subarus come with all wheel drive standard. Toyotas are all front wheel drive, which is fine. With AWD, you are going to get better traction on the road. I have a Subaru WRX, and if you get like an Impreza (non-turbo version), you are going to have like gas mileage and like quality all around. I love my Subi. That's all I drive. Toyotas are nice, but they are a dime a dozen. Subarus aren't as prevalant as Toyotas, so you're going to have a car that not everyone has. I enjoy my Subi so much. So much more than any Toyota or Honda I've ever owned. I've owned a Toyota Matrix, a Honda Civic, and two Subaru WRXs. Next in line is an STI.

I have a 2005 toyota corolla and a 2005 subaru baja AWD in my household. Both are great (so far). My first car was a 1993 Toyota Corolla DX. After driving that, I swore I'd always buy a Corolla. I loved that car and cried when I had to sell it when I moved cross-country.
I like the subaru; especially the AWD. I love my corolla, though. I do believe I'll always buy Corolla. More comfort inside, better gas mileage, never any problems.

really they all are japanese and have great quality. And they will last u a long time and all that jazz.... you hear about it a ton. but i think the thing is subaru offers a better set for technology for a bit more of a price. I mean they have one of the best best all wheel drive systems and these 4 cylinder 300 hp boxer engines that are available and for about 8k more than a honda or toyota ( myabe like 10K in sum situations ) But it would most definatley be best to buy a subaru becuase there gonna last long and they are much safer and promising.

each human being has there own opinion. Mine comes from operating at a Honda dealership for 5 years 1of on all makes and fashions of used autos. Honda is very reliable "this is what I rigidity", Toyota, Nissan and Subaru are also very reliable autos i counsel any of those. i do not propose Daewoo "they went out of agency for a reason" Hyundai is an identical as KIA (actually they are made interior of a similar production facility) they have countless issues "I actually have worked on all of those i understand". so a ways as American autos(Ford,Chevy, and keep away from) they are in my view no longer very nearly as good because the first 3 i discussed yet are more desirable ideal than KIA,Hynda, and daewoo. i understand those with Honda, Nissan, Toyota, and Subaru with over 2 hundred,000 .miles on them.

toyotas r the best afforable quality cars. honda is not as good. Sabaru is known to be fast! stock toyotas usually have much more smoother ride than honda's and usually looks more expensive and high quality compare to honda and subaru. but if u want to modify ur car, honda has much more modifications than both toyota and subaru. hope this helps u!

I have both a toyota and a subaru. They are both excellent rides with great longevity. Subaru's are very easy to work on and the boxer style motors are reliable and quick. I love toyotas too. i worked for them for a while and have owned several. we just bought our 2nd impreza last year and its awesome. I love the wrx. Anyone who thinks subaru is a lesser car doesn't know what they are talking about.

Toyota owns Hino Motors which owns about 30% of Subaru. In the future they will collaborate to make cars. But for now, unless you need AWD, Toyotas are cheaper and lower on maintinence.

They are now even better, Toyota has not developed well to being a super-massed produced company. Toyotas falling in the same pit GM did, but GM is raising itself out with brand new, best in class models like the Saturn Aura, and like always they look better too.
