mmmkay, gonna have to add details. she doesn't cook. Hawaii is a tropical climate so warm clothing is moot, and my husband is NO help. he doesn't have a clue. LOL thank goodness he's cute.

I used to be rude to my parents, ever since my teenage years. They didn't understand me and they always forced me to do this, this and that. They always treated me like a kid even when I had grown to a mid-20's adult man. They scolded me badly, sparing no abusive words. I thought I got hurt by them too much and I would never live with them. However ... However, when I have got my own child, I've realized how difficult parenthood could be, and what an achievement raising a child from infancy to adulthood is for a parent. Almost suddenly, I got to know how great parents are, and what sacrifice they have made for their kids. Parents dedicate their lives to children, yet in this country, many children don't give their gratitude to parents, at least not as much as their parents deserve. I am religious but I believe one should thank his parents first, instead of God or something, cuz mom and dad are the people you can see and live with, who take care of you so much, without ever thinking of anything in return! In the States, when parents got old, they are sent to an elderly's home, but we all know old people are so easy to feel lonely and really dream to live with their family. They have devoted everything for their children, but end up in the elderly house. So we got to understand that, mom is the person who gives everything and asks nothing back. I can't believe anyone who claims to thank God a lot but doesn't thank his mother. Such a person is God damned.

Get a beautiful frame and get a family portrait done. Put the picture in the frame. A perfect gift that any grandparent would love.

Something typically british. If she's an expat, then Earl grey tea gift pack. Tweed scarf, Picture frame with photo of her three grandchildren. None of these will be too heavy to take back with her.

I would say play it safe and go that route. You could get her like a bathing suit wrap, flips flops, sun glasses, etc. and put it all together in a nice basket. I'm sure she'll like it. I'll be gifts that she could always use especially if she lives in Hawaii.

How about when she gets there, go for a family protrait together. That way, she will remember the visit fondly, and be included in the new grandchild, and the other two grandchildren.

i would get her something new and different that maybe she has not already gotten for herself at home. anyway, it is the thought that counts. you will be getting brownie points just for shopping and purchasing her a gift no matter what, so just relax and go shopping and if you see something pretty that you like, buy it and wrap it and sign your card with love. you will be a winner no matter what you get her. merry christmas to all of you.

She is from here, .... get her something she can easily bring back home- nothing bulky. Her son- your hubby- should have some ideas.... I'm sure he knows what she likes.
