I'm especially interested in brewing tea "British style", but using Chinese dried tea leaves. I'd like to use just an ordinary small pot (stainless steel) until I can get me a teapot which can be put on top of the stove (?)

Have You a french press coffee Jug? Strictly speaking,You use freshly boiled water for tea.the press Jug would work ok til You get the teapot. the brewed tea leaves in the open stove top pot You mention would get messy, and nobody likes chewing tealeaves..otherwise,You'd need a tea strainer when pouring, which the teapot should have built in.
Measure the tea into the pot-a teaspoon per person-pour on the boiling water, and let it stand for a few minutes to brew.

If you want to make it "British style"...then just get an ordinary china teapot..put the dried tea leaves in it and add boiling water ( It must be boiling) then allow to sit for 5-10 minutes...use a tea strainer to stop the tea leaves going into your cup...and that's it.

You need a tea caddy which holds the died tea leaves which you can put in a cup.or you just add water and wait until it is seeped. You can find these tea caddys sometimes called tea holders at the hardware store or any department stores and yes you can get a kettle that goes on your stove. This stove top kettle can be used for a teapot too.English style)

bring fresh water just to the boil take it off the heat. put about 1/4 cup of the hot water in the pot and swirl it around to heat the pot
then put one teaspoon of tea for each six ounces of water in the pot then add the hot water.(one teaspoon of tea is more or less to taste)
