Take a section and clamp the curling iron on it - twirl the curling iron around so your hair wraps around it in a spiral. Hold for a little bit then release. Keep doing this all over your head. You can turn the curling iron sideways (hold tip of it straight up to sky) or turn it under or up. You can take one section and twirl the iron one way (with tip up) then take the next section and twirl it the other way, then the other way the next section and so on. Wait a minute or so to let the hair cool off, then lightly run your fingers through your hair from underneath to gently loosen the curls. You can also twist a section of hair and THEN curl it with the iron.

Use the hair curler on a low setting to make looser curles, lightly sprits with hair spray from kinda far away so your hair will stay soft and not get crunchy. Then wait a while and it'll fall out a bit into waves, sprits again with hairspray and there you go!!! If you have really fine hair you might wanna do tighter curles at first just to make sure the waves don't fall out completely. Also if you use a curling iron with a larger barrel, it'll be more wavy than curly.

Have fun! :D

I have the same issue. Wavy hair is the best because you can either go curly, wavy or straight. I scrunching my hair first then using a curling iron to fix up pieces works best. I love doing hair similar to Jessica Simpson's this way.
Hope this is helpful!

Wrap your hair around the curling iron. What ever size iron you want. Spray your hair then pull the curl and let go to loosen the curl. I saw it on TV once,

You curl it like regular and when you are about to take the roller out, you pull it straight down. And then lightly comb your hair.
