You can mix or match any brands. As with all systems, you just have to have the right impedances.

my personal I would go with the JBL unless we are talking about the pioneer premier. the JBL P1222 is a good one, one of my friend has 2 of those it beats hard. But, according to my information that Pioneer Premier TS-W3002D2 has the twice the power then JBL P1222 and there price is about the same. But, I know Wolmart sale pioneer and one of my friend got one of those he blown his sub out pretty quick. But the premier is very different from pioneer, I have never get into pioneer premier subwoofers. All I know is premier HeadUnit is very good, but if you like loud, here some suggestions: JL audio W6 and W7, Alpine Type R and X, Re audio XXX, MT and MX, MMat Jugger naut, FI BTL and BL, Rockford Fosgate Power T2, Kicker CVX, L7 and solo X, Orion HCCA, MTX Audio T9512, T8512, TS8512, TS5512 and the 22" wide 20" deep jackhammer.

Yes, you can mix and match all you want. In fact, it is often best to do so, as one company does not make the best of everything.
