Most decent people agree that slavery is not a moral practice, yet, the bible clearly condones slavery by regulating it, and never stating that it is wrong.. right is right, wrong is wrong, yeterday, today and tommorrow...

Because it was written by men who condoned slavery.

They also condoned autocratic, theocratic, authoritarian governments. They had a low opinion of women. They thought education was memorizing religious texts. They thought that belief made things true. They thought the world was flat. That the sun went around the earth and that stars were just pinpricks that the light from heaven shown through and all sort of nonsense.

The Bible was written by ignorant men, who did the best they knew how to with the ignorance they were cursed with.

And the same thing is true for the Koran. All religious texts have limitations that clearly identify the source as mankind and definitely not a God.

Slavery was part of the culture and economic system. Just like we have upper middle and lower classes in most countries now.

There was an upper class, a skilled class and a slave class. Those in the slave class lived in the house, and did the household chores. They had food and a roof over their head. Most slaves were not treated badly. Think about it a lot of people could deal with that sort of life. Do a job, have a roof over their head and food to eat.
Some people dont' mind a simple life style.

Some slaves learned a trade and if they were really good at it they might petition the owner for their freedom to persue that venture. If the head of the household was a decent person he would. Many people were poor and this kept them from being destitute.

It wasn't the back breaking, whipped and beaten type of situation that many people have made it out to be.. you have to really read your history to understand it.

As the world changed so did the slave markets, it got smaller and smaller until its pretty much disappeared except for some spots in the middle East, Africa and Asia were its still part of their culture.

When reading the Bible you must keep in mind that you are going back to a far, far different place and cultural reality. The slavery spoken of in the Bible is far different from what someone in our culture thinks of. When you or I hear slavery we think of the movie Roots and black people being abducted, beaten, raped, etc.... That is different from what the ancient Hebrews had. It is also different from what existed in the Roman empire when Paul said that slaves should be obedient to their masters. What that kind of slavery would be most akin to is the concept of an indentured servant, and it was not so much a form of cruelty and exploitation as it was an economic necessity of that day. If you read the Bible you will also see that people were to be kind to the people in their service.

Slavery as been around as long as humans as walked upright. The old testament gave the rules that the ancient Jews had to follow. It dose not condone it, just treated as away of life. Rome was built by slaves. If they had not had slavery they would have never done what they did. The civilization that had slavery for the longest time was Egypt. The difference from what happened in the US is that the ancient civilization did not just stick to one race. In Rome they even had Romain slave

It condones slavery because it is an ancient text where slavery was common and accepted. No more, no less.

Keep questioning - it's good to question things that we accept simply because they are the commonly accepted practice.

The Bible does not condone slavery. It does however reveal that we are all enslaved to our sin and need to be freed by the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ who came to set the captives free.

Where does God say He condones slavery? Slavery was just a part of the custom of the day, back in the Old Testament especially. God sets men free.

No where in the Bible does God condone slavery. It was a form of punishment,to correct, teach, bring to repentance or simply because Hebrews who had no money would be sold to work til they paid off debts. But I don' think their souls were subordinated to one another, nor were they sexually defiled-as they all had mates and were the same race. But even they could misuse one another and God told them to free their fellowHebrew slave after 7 years. The Bible tells peole who are in slavery to work for and obey their masters while they'rein slavery-as you would honor your employer and do as they ask.Not to rebel for no reason. But Hebrew slaves weren't usually mistreated by fellow Hebrews.

Why not? Without slavery or cheap labor nothing great can (or could) ever be achieved:

The Pyramids

The Parthenon

The Colossus

The Collosseum

Microsoft

Nike

Chaps

Tommy

Adidas

etc.

Because slavery was the 'econo-franca' of the day. If you were rich, no problem. If you were poor-then either you sold yourself into slavery or you fed the worms.
You are running a lame horse.
