He keeps getting temperatures and blocked up every evening. Have tried antibiotics and they did work, but it came straight back

We do sit him up (2 pillows), we tried for nearly 2 months to get him to fight it himself, before antibiotics. I am now giving him small doses of Piriton to ease any allergies that may be causing this. He seems to be sleeping now, so far. I love my child very much, he is the light in my life, he makes me see evrything as if it is new to me. So you can imagine where I would put your plastic bag r sole.

The thing about antibiotics is this: If you stop the course of treatment before the prescription says (usually on the bottle) then you will not have killed off the bug. The virus overpower the antibiotic in his system and come back. If the doc diagnosed him with an upper respiratory infection you need to start over. Go back to the doc, tell them what happened. They will prescibe another course of antibiotics, possibly a stronger one, and you start all over. Make SURE you follow the course of treatment exactly.

However, if this is just a cold you need to let it run its course. His immune system will fight it off. Get him some children's cold medicine that covers all of his symptoms...cough, congestion, fever, etc. Give it to him until he's feeling better and the fever doesn't come back when it wears off. Giving antibiotics every time your child has a simple cold is just dumb. Their system is MADE to be able to fight off a cold or the flu. Contantly taking antibiotics causes them to become immune to that particular antibiotic and then when he's REALLY sick and needs the antibiotics to kill off whatever he's got he has less choices of good medicine....and a compromised immune system.

Also, get a cool mist humidifier. Start it up at night when your child goes to bed. Don't face it right at him or he'll get cold. Just put it on a dresser and let it go. Also, turn down the heat at night, or close the vents in your child's room. Dry air can cause congestion...and too much heat can cause dry air. It's easier to sleep with cool air and plenty of blankets. If he gets cold he'll pull up a blanket, too hot he'll kick it off....you get the idea.

How To Stop Child Coughing At Night

2016-10-21 05:28:09 · answer #2 · answered by ree 4 · 0 0

There could be a couple fo reasons, and the one that springs to mind could be an allergy to something. My little girlused to be fine during the day, and as soon as she went to bed coughed the night away. I eventually discovered that it was the feather duvet, that irritated her! If this is not the case, it could be a form of croup, which is helped by sitting the child in a steaming room, ie run the shower on hot, or boil the kettle. Try this! If this doesn't help I suggest you take him back to the GP and tell them that you want some allergy tests done. Poor little soulmust be so tired .. its exhausting to cough all the time. I reckon its an allergy to something. It could be something he has at night?? Perhaps even soap? Its hard to diagnose, without knowing his routine ... but look for things that he has or does just before he gets a temperature etc. I hope you findrelief soon. Take care.

Coughing is caused by many things. Alergies can cause coughing and little people have a harder time with them than we do. Sinus problem can cause coughing and antibiotics will not help if there is no infection. It doesn't sound like the Dr. has looked very far for the answer. Go to webMD.com and look up some more causes for coughing. navysonofga

I think there is something you have to pay attention about your child's health because it is not normal he keeps sick, but for helping him not to cough at night you have to make sure he is warm during the day and the air he is breathing in his room is healthy, buy a humidifier and stuff like that, you can although change the way he sleeps i mean he cannot sleep in a totally flat bed because the position of his throat makes him cough so put a pillow or something under the mattress so he is a little bit up.

You need to take him back in and get him re evaluated. Antibiotics are no use against viruses, and that what it sounds like he has.

His body also cannot find infection when he has fever, you need to keep a fever reducer in him all the time until the fever breaks and he's better again. Once a dose's time is up, give him another dose.

He needs fluids and lots of them.

he also NEEDS to cough, supressing a cough only increases the amount of fluid that builds up, and intensifies the infection.

Take him in now. Antibiotics also ruin your own immune system, supressing it, so it cannot fight off infection, since he's had them, he will have a hard time gaining the upper hand without medical attention.

When my litle one gets like that i put vicks everywhere lol. Well on his chest back and soles of his feet. When I know he is asleep I put a bowl of hot water with olbas oil in his room. (under his bed where he can't see it so the vapors fill the room.) Ill raise the head end of his bed a little with a pillow under the matress. If i know he is off colour like that i'll also give him tixylix and calpol after his bath and before bed. I make sure he doesn't have too many covers as a very high temperature can cause convulsions. If he has a high temperature in the day don't let him watch t.v as this can also cause them. I think it's cause the brain gets overheated and causes a black spot due to high temperature and t.v ca make the brain overheat. Not sure how, was told by my doctor.

Get a cool mist humidifier and keep it on "low" in his room. A lot of times, the dry air will aggravate allergies and such, therefore allowing secondary infections to set in. Ask your doc about an allergy meds called "Trital DM" and "Zymine" as a short term combination. If you dry up all the drainage and junk the allergies produce, he should start feeling better. You can also ask your doc for one of the cough meds that has a small dose of codeine in it to completely suppress the cough and allow him to sleep. It won't make him a drug addict, it will help him sleep and feel better. I have to use this method every winter with my toddler and she hasn't taken antibiotics since we started it. Poor baby, and good luck

Put a spoonful of Vic in a bowl of boiling water (somewhere where he can't reach it, obviously) and let the vapours and steam fill the room, it really helps clear your chest and sleep much more soundly.
Hope that helps xx

Ooooh and Tixylix works wonders. It's baby cough medicine but I still have it sometimes lol.

Go back for a stronger antibiotic and make sure ALL of it is taken at the proper times. Also ask the doctor for a cough suppressant/expectorant to help the child sleep.
