I dated this one guy for 5 and a half years and then broke up with him. A week later I started seeing this new guy and told him right away that it would not turn into anything serious. He said he was fine with that...Well it was great having someone to distract me from the break up and to kind of act as a surrogate boyfriend now that I broke things of with the other one. The new guy was just kind of a crutch to hold onto while I was recovering from the break up. The guy was a great guy but ended up getting hurt because he wanted to make things more serious and I didn't want anything like it. I was "seeing" him for three months when I realized we were going in totally different directions (he wanted a relationship and I didn't). I felt bad but I had to end it with him. It was great having someone though to lean on for the first little while after the break up...I'm still great friends with the guy and surprisingly no one was left bitter.
I wouldn't reccomend it though because it really is just a mean thing to do to someone....but it does help...I think as long as you make it clear to the person that a relationship will not be the result of you guys "hanging" out then there is a greater chance no one will get hurt.

I think its just someone u can lean on, tell things too, someone u can let it out with. Many ppl do that, and need it since they feel so vunerable and lonely, they need a fall back, jsut someone for a little bit. I guess it depends on the person...?

I dated my husband for about 3 mos before we got married and we're celebrating 11 years this month. The 3 mos. started approx. 1 month after my divorce from my previous husband. HOWEVER, I don't recommend that path. You need to learn to live with yourself before moving on to someone new. Otherwise, you may have regrets.

Either I was already interested with someone else, or I just went out to have fun and something develops.

For me, it just ended up being a physical fling. I guess it was just about working out my frustrations and the girl benefited.
