sweet the heat. add a chocolate square or two.....it will help sweeten the deal and actually adds great taste to the chili. This will help with the flavoring, but will not greatly reduce the heat.
I actually prefer heat and I always recommend to my other friends to add their fair share of cheese to my batches. The reason for this is the cheese contains dairy and dairy is the best way to reduce heat.
An interesting fact is that the amount of "heat" is determined by how much "sweet water" it takes to get the heat out.

The secret to flavorful Chili is Cumin. You could add a 1/2 teaspoon for more zip. Have a light hand, though, Cumin is a very flavorful spice. I would add a little garlic, too. A small amount of sugar will take away some of the acidity of the tomatoes and help "marry" the flavors. Good Luck

Toss in a couple of raw potatoes, and simmer for a bit. The potatoes absorb a lot of the spice, and you discard them when they've done their work.
You can also add a little sugar and some more tomato sauce to the mix. They'll also help cut the spicy taste.
A tablespoon of honey is also effective, but you need a very mild honey to avoid adding an unusual taste.

When you serve it, serve it with sour cream. Just put a dallop on top and stir in. Also, you can add cheese with it. I always make my chili too spicy for my own liking...my husband loves it, though.

I know if you put too much salt in your soup, you can put in chunks of potato to absorb it. It should work for spices too; potatoes suck up flavors pretty well. Just make sure to take the potato bits out before you serve it.

If it's too spicy, you can add sugar. Sugar tones down the spicy hot flavor.
