Good question, and the answers I'm coming up with as I research this are VERY surprising.

I did some research, and the baked fries recipes range from 162 to 350 calories per serving. Depending on how they're made and what kind of oil you're using, they have anywhere from less than a gram of fat to about 5 grams per serving.

Fast food French fries start at about 200 calories (Sonic small fries) and go up to 600+ calories at Burger King. Home fries don't fare much better -- around 450 calories. The big difference is in the sodium and cholesterol counts. The fast food fries are much higher in both areas than either baked or home fries. So the baked fries may not save you a lot on calories depending on the recipe you've got, but they sure save a lot in trans-fats and sodium.

From what I've read, it looks like baked sweet potato fries are the big winner -- around 120 calories per serving and a lot less salt and cholesterol when you're done. That might be a healthier alternative to even your home fries.

Hope this helps.

No baked fries aren't bad in fact anything baked is almost always healthier and you don't even need to use that much oil if any with most frozen fries. Get some non stick canola cooking spray and just spray lightly over your pan.

Baked fries are not bad for you. I assume you mean that you cut and bake your own potatos. Lightly toss them in some olive oil then season them however you want. Olive oil is a fat source but it is a healthy fat source. There are such things as good fat and we all need it. If you want great skin and healthy hair then you need a certain amount of fat, but the good fat. Fried foods actually shorten your life, make you look older and are usually loaded with trans fat which is basically poison. So, if you want fried it is best to bake them.

Potatoes in general are very high in carbs. While they're not "unhealthy", they're not exactly healthy. Baking your fries instead of frying them is definitely a better choice, but you should limit the amount you eat anyway.

ofcourse not. bake fries aren't bad for you. as long as when you put salt on them, you shake once, limit the amount of ketchup you eat with them and bake the fries in canola/olive/peanut/sunflower oil.

If you use canola or vegtable oil and just bake them, I can garantee that they are healthier than fried or Mickey D's

Baked is far better. They also came out with baked potato chips awhile back. Both much healthier.

No, not at all. Baked is always better. Just use a good quality olive oil (which is GOOD for you) and you'll be fine!!
