I know to get her spayed, but I can't seem to find a vet that will do a spaying with her in heat for less than 600 bucks. (That buys a lot of pampers! :) ).

All this blood is gross, how long does the bleeding itself last? What can I expect overthis time of her being in heat? I've only had boy dogs who were neutered? Do they get pregnant easy?

Just wait until her heat is over until you get her spayed. It's not worth the extra money if you know you can be super vigilant and make sure she doesn't come into contact with any entire males during the period. Heats generally last from 2 - 4 weeks with 3 weeks being the average. The bleeding period will probably only last around a week or so. There are doggy nappies you can use. The pill for dogs doesn't work so don't bother with that and it's probably too late for it anyway. There are sprays on the market that are supposed to deter dogs from wanting to mount her by masking the odour of her heat but forget those as well cause they're absolutely useless. After she's stopped bleeding, wait at least a week maybe two before you take her out freely again (dangerous when you're walking her as a male entire could very conceivably just come and jump her - it's happened plenty of times before! it can be so quick!). I think it will be fairly obvious when your male dog loses interest in her is pretty much when it's all over with. Good luck!

Hello I am not sure how long the cycle is I think 2 weeks. The one thing I know is you can go to petsmart or a per store and ask for the belt and napkin that fits for the dog to wear until she is finished her cycle. You of course have to change the pad ever so often. I know this as I had a friend who had a female and this is what they did with their dog. As soon as possible get her spay after the cycle ends. Well, there in heat for around 23 days altogether. Only about one week she will be bleeding. They have doggie diapers at walmart or any store that sales pet supplies. This will keep the blood from getting everywhere. But if you use these, you should still keep her away from any males that arent neutered, because sometimes the males can get past the diapers.
Good luck!
(i mean.. if she gets around any male dogs that arent neutered hehe :p )

Their heat usually lasts about 3 wks. The first week the bleeding is the strongest and then it starts to lighten up. They can get pregnant very easily so make sure you keep her away from all the boys (preferably inside, as dogs have been known to mate through chain link fences). You can go to your local pet store and buy some ***** britches for her, they are just little pants that you put on the dog and you can put pads in them to absorb the blood.

KEEP her away from other males!!!!!!!! She will be in hear for the next 2 weeks but probably less! After she is done you can call the humane society and they will tell you of a place that will do low cost spaying etc! It only cost us by the weight of our dogs! (25.00- 35.00) If she hooks up and gets stuck with another dog then u will be a puppy parent in 60- 63 days!As for the bleeding- no real way to make it go away but you can keep her in a laundry room etc and keep papers down or buy undies for her but most dogs hate them! Hope it helps!

It usually lasts a week to as long as 3 weeks. I had one dog that just kept going and going. Her heat lasted forever and she bled all over everything...and licked constantly. Gross! At the pet store I ordered her a pair of pink ruffly underwear with a place to insert a pad and it velcro'd around her belly and had a hole for her tail. It was the cutest thing to see her in those pants! Try Drs Foster & Smith website or go to your local PetSmart/Petco and they'll have the panties and just use your own pads- change them like you would your own.

Wait until she's out of heat and then it should be more reasonable to get her spayed.

I wouldn't let her go for walks around the neighborhood or stay outside by herself if possible because any male dogs will be searching for her because they can smell her. And dog pregnancies are just like human ones...it only takes once.

Good luck!

Get her spayed when she's not in heat. Also, call your local humane society, they should be able to refer you to a vet who can do it for low cost (600 bucks is a LOT!!!). Sometimes there are clinics for dogs and cats and aren't so expensive. They sell diapers for dogs in heat at petstores as well. Also, KEEP HER INSIDE and AWAY FROM ALL MALE DOGS, or she WILL get pregnant.

for many dogs, a warmth lasts someplace between 2 to 3 weeks, each 5 months. If it lasts longer or it hasn't been 5 months in the previous they arrive decrease back, you ought to work out a vet.

Go to a store and buy a reusable doggy diaper. I have 1 and they really work. The blood will be gone in at least 1 week.(i think.)
