You have a lot of time, so get started now and buy a few things each time you get paid. That way you're not going into debt. A lot of stores (I got mine at Target) make print-at-home invitations and response cards.

flowers - in the church or ceremony at lease - find out if anyone else is getting married the same day and share the cost of the flowers with them.
You can also buy the flowers and do the arangements yourself - or get a trusted relative.
Investigate classes at your local college - if they do cake decorating and / or bakery you can get a cake for the cost of the ingredients.
You can get all the stuff to make invites and favours from craft shops and do them yourself.
Buy the wine at the supermarket and just pay "corkage" to the venue.
Dress - local art college, uniersity that does design courses - you pay for the materials and a small fee for the design, the student does the work and you get a one off, and keep it, in a few years you could have an origional of the next versarce.
Or get a vintage dress form Oxfam.
Rings - yep you guessed it - get a student to design it, and you can have your old jewlery melted down to make them.
BTW I've been to a lot of weddings and the 2 I have enjoyed most have had the 'reception' in the home of the bride and groom - don't rule that out as a venue.

The number one thing to do is to minimize your wedding party. For each attendant you can assume a $250 - $500 cost. Flowers: go for wild flowers, not roses.
Rehearsal: Skip it!! This can cost you around $1,000, the smaller the wedding party the easier it is to organize everything.
Centerpieces: Simplicity is the best, but unique. Theme of the wedding will always determine the centerpieces
Go for the Buffet, no one will mind
If you are getting married at the same location as the reception, eliminate the limo
Make the invites yourself, also use postcards for response cards, this will reduce your postage expense
Good Luck!!

I did a budget wedding in three weeks. I made my own flower arrangement by going to the store "michaels" and buying the supplies. I ordered my invites from a printing company for a reasonable price since I only needed like 75. I ordered my food, buffet style without attendents (I had to drop off the empty trays back the catering company myself) for a reasonable price, I did not go to a high priced fancy place. I rented a small hall, one that I had to set up and supply the cloth for the tables and such, hired a cheap photographer that was only taking pictures of the ceremony and important parts of the reception, I had disposables out for the reception party itself and my husband I went on a weekend trip a couple of hours away from home. All in all with the rings we only spent 3500.00
I also got married on a Friday, it was cheaper for everything including the DJ

Personally I think the money that some people spend on a wedding is disgusting. If you both love each other then it shouldn't make any difference whether it's the biggers do in the world or just a quick registry office job and then down the local for a pie and a pint. I would suggest planning a ceremony you are both comfortable with without wasting a load of money that I'm sure you could both do with to use for the house etc.

John Lewis have loads of make your own wedding stationery stuff. Paperchase are also good also Hobbycraft - they all do stuff you could make table decorations from too.
See if you can get your reception somewhere you can take your own booze and pay corkage rather than paying the full whack for it. You could do a booze cruise to France and get cheap stuff. Even hiring a church hall where they won't even charge that and get in outside caterers to do the food?
You can also get loads of books on flower arrangements and do them yourself maybe with help from your folks or the in laws. Try Waterstone's maybe? Artificial flowers might be good and less hassle.
Good luck hope it goes well.

Instead of hiring people and catering, get your family and friends to help you prepare it all. You can do your place cards using MS Word, you can buy your own flowers and decorations, and get your female family members to help with food. I did my entire wedding in under $3K and it was beautiful and I had a wedding party of 20 and a guess list of 100.My family and friends all helped out.
Also, if you have a David's Bridal near you, they have good discounts on bridal gowns and if you buy so many bridesmaids dresses and shoes, you get a 15% discount on each dress and pair of shoes. My bridesmaids saved so much money that they all piled it together and bought my bridal gown and accessories for me. I cried I was so happy and surprised when they gave me the money.

If you are in the UK then I would say get yourself to Hobbycraft, my husband and I (we got married on Saturday) made all our own invitations, order of service, place cards and menus for tables using things we bought there, I even got my tiara from Hobbycraft (a small comb covered in small diamantes which cost £11.50!).
For table decorations we went to Morrisons and bought small glass tealight holders (singles and ones in blocks of 4) and scented red and ivory tea lights.
We did our own flowers, we just worked out how many we would need for bouquets and buttonholes, and we also used some for the cake, and we went to a florist and ordered them to arrive the day before the wedding (cost us £147 for 1 large white rose bouquet, 5 small red (Grand Prix) rose bouquets, 12 rose buttonholes, 6 freesia corsages and 12 red roses for the cake, compared to quotes that we had of £350-£400 for a florist to do it for us!).
If you have 2 years to plan, then you have plenty of time to do loads of it yourself, just make sure you rope in plenty of people to help or it might just drive you mad!

My mom went to Costco and bought the rolls, a bunch of fruit salad, the cheese, meat fixins for sandwiches and candy for the tables. I don't think she spent too much. She asked her friends to help in the kitchen at the church to make sure food was always out. I had a nice wedding.

Try and make it small, maybe a reception rather than a church. Theres plenty of ways you can have the best wedding and have it looking a million dollars...and thats just you. Design it all yourself, dont pay for a wedding planner. Congrats anyway and i hope it all goes well
