Justin,

The answer depends on how your jaws were fractured and what method (beside wiring) the oral surgeon used to fix your jaws .

For example if it was only a "crack" ( without displacement of the bone; aka "green-stick fracture") then your are OK to eat soft food now.

If it was a "compound" fracture with displacement of bones, and the oral surgeon fixed it with screws and plates in addition to wiring your teeth, then you can eat soft food after 6-8 weeks.

If it was a "compound" fracture with displacement of bone, and the oral surgeon fixed with wires only, then you will need to wait 12 weeks before eating any soft food.

If it was a "complex" fracture (multiple fractures, Jaw was broken in pieces), you must wait AT LEAST 12 weeks before eating soft food.

No solid food should be attempted until your dentist can x-ray your jaws to CONFIRM the healing of bone.

No, especially if it is an "unfavorable fracture". This is where the muscles that you use to eat (muscles of mastication) pull the fractured pieces away from each other and not towards each other. The Oral surgeon wires you shut for a reason, so you don't chew and damage the healing fracture.

Call your Dentist to see what he says but I would say no don't do it. Not unless you want to compromise 4 1/2 weeks of healing.

No, I would wait until you see the oral surgeon, just stick to swallowing mashed food or soups.

Please wait, your oral surgeon will want to x-ray the mandible to make sure it has healed.
