I honestly think people make a big deal out of it when it comes to how did you put it "wretched little brats screaming and running around". It depends on where I am: in a restaurant.. I do not allow my kids to scream and run around they must behave or we leave. In the store: They don't run around but if they are loud... who gives a crap. There are adults doing more annoying things like walking super slow while taking up a whole isle or stopping in the middle of the isle without moving over etc. You aren't in the store to have a nice quiet conversation with someone else. If they are whining and complaining then we leave but other than that: I'm not gonna discipline my children because some old cranky pants like yourself is upset and they aren't doing anything wrong. I agree that there are many parents who should discipline their kids while in public.. I also think that people without kids expect too much of kids at the same time.

Unfortunately, its up the parents how they choose to discipline their children. I totally understand what you're saying, but just remember that they have a right to be out in public too - and after all they are just kids being kids.

I believe in discipline when it comes to children (not beating them or anything stupid like that obviously) - however if I were in a public place and having a hard time controlling them I would hope that I could have a little understanding from those around me.

Also keep in mind that people normally take their kids to kid friendly places - maybe its best for you to avoid these sorts of locations in the future?

Have you never given someone a dirty look for getting onto their kid a bit too harshly in public? How about for not getting onto their kid at all. Truth is you never really know what's going on with that parent. The best thing parents can do with the kid is exit the store until the kid can chill out but at the same time people in the parking lot will be giving you dirty looks! A swat on the behind will getcha in trouble however I have done it and when I got dirty looks I just sucked it up. You really can't win for losing when you take cranky hungry sick kids to the store.

there could be two reasons for this: the children aren't disciplined at home and are allowed to do whatever they want at home so the parents have absolutely no control over their children in public. or a lot of people are afraid to discipline in public b/c of people ridiculing the way you are handling the situation. i had an older woman yell at me for grabbing my son's arm before knocking over a display at the grocery store and putting him back in the cart and ignored him while he cried. you're kind of screwed either way as a parent. but i do feel ur pain, i hate the kids that run wild in public.

Any more if you get caught trying to discipline your kids it's called child abuse. I don't understand children services. They pay more attention to the kids that are not getting beat then to the kids that really need help. They make no sense to me. They should spend more of there time helping the kids that really need them and less of there time picking on innocent parents who are just trying to teach there kids right from wrong. There is a big difference in putting your kid in the corner for not listening and throwing your kid across the room for not eating there vegetables.

that's not self-discipline in my opinion, that's verbal abuse which will probable reason the youngster a superb variety of trauma and misery of their existence. If she has the audacity to try this in the time of a public place think of what she does to the youngster at abode, in all probability way worse, she ought to additionally be violent. i hit upon those circumstances unbearably uncomfortable and saddening and that i wish those with authority like keep managers or perhaps workers might step up and attempt to create order with the help of chatting with them.

So you would rather hear these kids getting spanked or hit? I do think it it is wrong to let kids misbehave, scream or run around in public and do nothing. As for disciplining, I think that a good parent should remove their child and give them a time-out.

Parents don't discipline their children in public because it is A) illegal and B) is embarrassing because it means your child has no self-control. Some people will report you to the cops and Dyfus (people who take children away). So they wait until they get to their private home where no one is watching.

Because alot of parents take the position that by addressing the child they are rewarding him/her for his behavior and instead ignore the child which results in probably further upset and annoyance to the rest of the world-- while the parent gloats at his/her handling of the situation

well unfortunately there are people that are unlike you who will report a parent to the child protective services if you even pull them buy the arm, much less if they see you spank them. Either that or they are way to tired to deal with trying over and over again telling them no, or doing things that they know don't work. there could be many reasons.
