Two famous German cakes which are now exported to many countries in the world, including the US and Canada, are Stollen and Lebkuchen. They are especially popular around Christmas time. Rich, sweet yeast Stollens dusted with icing sugar are said to represent the infant Christ wrapped in swaddling clothes. Inside are "gifts" of fruits. Nuts and brightly colored candied delicacies. The best known Stollen comes from Dresden, but many regions have their own delicious variations.
