Becareful. Down and feathers are not the same thing. Feathers are cheaper and used to add bulk, but they are not as insulating. The down is the undercoat of the duck or goose, not the feathers. If you feel points or hard objects inside, you have feathers. Also I've been told by several old German ladies that feathers cause allergies, not the down........sounds like something for Snopes to me. So while I'm still going with the down coat, it could be a lot better. I'd probably have something wool on underneath, like a vest.

Pound for pound......down is the warmest. You don't see people climbing Mt. Everest in wood coats. However, style-wise (did I really type that??) wool coats are often more fashionable than down.

I like wool for around the house and outside down to somewhere just below freezing. Anything lower, I want down. For years I lived in Colorado high country and found a nice wool sweather and a down coat could not be beat!!!

down and feather are the same thing. and a down coat is warmer that a wool coat because they are thicker and quilted to hold the down feathers up (keeps them from all going to the bottom of the coat). at least that has been my experience. i had a down parka some years ago...and it was a great coat! i really miss it, perhaps one day i'll get another one. back when i was a hippy i had a wool
navy p-coat, it was warm too, and i did use it sometimes in Minnesota during the winter, but the down one was better in that minus 40 i think

Well I guess it all depends on where you live... I would suggest a wool coat over a bubble jacket any day, because they hold up, they are very warm, and of coarse they look nice. But there a few things you would have to take in consideration, is the bubble jacket water proof, wind resistant, ect.. I've went through many bubble jackets, and so far, and always seemed to get a hole in the jacket, out of no where and the liner/insulation would gradually fall out. =\ I have only had one wool coat, and so far its held up and has been a lot warmer.

I have both... The down / feather one is warmest for ME...

A down jacket is preferred over a feather one. The feather ones are just odd to me.

I'd take the down/feather one. many layers keep you warmest.
