I just learned today that I have yet to file my taxes for 2005 because I was moving all over the place all year. I have only the one W2 form from the only job, and had no rent or anything else to add to the form.

Problem is I have always done my filing online, electronically. And now when I go to any online sites, they only talk about 2006 tax returns.

Can I even cash in on my tax return from a year ago? I'd get almost 200 dollars back so it would be a nice Christmas bonus.

Any website links would be great, too, thanks!

Just go to www.irs.gov. Then click on the tab that says individuals (on left side) Next, click on the title forms and publications. Then, there will be a list. The second one down is entitled previous tax years. Click on that and you should have it. Don't worry, my husband was due for two years when we were married, and I got him straight with the IRS and collected a few thousand to boot!

Prior years returns have to be filed on paper. Refunds can be claimed for up the 3 years after the original due date of the return. For the 2005 tax year (filed in 2006) that means you have until April 15, 2009. There are no late filing penalties if you are due a refund. You due need to use the correct forms and tax tables for the year in question. (The rules change somewhat each year.) All 2005 forms can be found at the link below. From the IRS main page search for '2005 forms' to find the same page.

For state taxes, you would need to contact your state tax authority. I expect the rules are similar.

Hello, there: There is no need to worry since you can file back taxes as far as five years. All you need to do is go to your local library and ask to see "package X." That is what is called and I am not kidding.
Make a few copies of the 2005 1040A and 540A forms. Also see if you can get a copy of the 2005 tax table from them. Filing your personal taxes should be simple since you are used to doing it on-line. All you have to do is read the information. Before sending them out attach a copy of your W-2 on each form and mail them to their respective addresses. The 1040A goes to the Internal Revenue Service and the 540A to the Franchise Tax Board in Sacramento. The addresses are in the tax booklets. remember to sign the forms on the back. Should you have any questions you can always call the 800 number listed on the aforementioned booklets.
Have a happy return.

Yes Mama!

I recently sent in three years of taxes. Including 2005. I had been in a very bad accident and had not filed since then. I called the IRS to request the forms and instructions and they promptly mailed them to me. Then I sent in the forms, and they very quickly got my money back to me. However, the whole process probably took about 3 months from requesting the forms to getting my money. I don't think you will have it by Christmas. You can find the phone number for the IRS on their web site.

Download the right forms from the IRS and your State, fill them out, and send them in!!!

Here is the link to the IRS forms for 2005, you probably just need the 1040ez form:

Then you need your state income tax form, I don't know what state that is so I can't help you there...
