The vitamins themselves are identical whether you get them from food or supplements, but we still don't understand perfectly how they are absorbed, so sometimes food has trace minerals that help us absorb the vitamins which supplements lack. For example, vitamin D supplements may not be as good as vitamin D-enriched milk because the calcium in the milk helps your body absorb the D.
