In most cases the dog will be OK after eating a smell piece of chocolate. The most dangerous form of chocolate to dogs is the bakers chocolate. You should check the ingredients on the wrapper,and I would also suggest that you call a local animal hospital and ask them. Just be careful and don't let them talk you in to bringing in the dog if he's OK. I don't know how long ago this happened but if it's been more than a day and there haven't been any major issues then there's a good chance he's going to be OK. A word of advise, as a dog owner you should have a personnel vet that could answer your question without an exam.

How long ago was this? If it just happened it would be best to take the dog to a vet but if it's been more than a day or so than it'll have gone through it's system with or without repercussions.
Danger od chocolate to dog depends on poundage of dog, quantity of chocolate eaten and the kind of chocolate/ingredients. Baker's chocolate is the worse.

Your dog will be fine, cause my dog used to eat chocolate pie alot and never got sick. The dog was fine for 10 yrs til someone stoled it.

Chocolate is ten times as potent for dogs then it is for people, it can make them sick, vomit, but rarely will it cause death. make sure he's not overexerting himself, its' the stimulant in chocolate (caffine) that is the danger his heart shouldn't be pumping at max right now

yes! it takes quite a bit to hurt or kill your dog.
my rat terrier ate 1/4 of bag of dove carmel chocolates
just puked for about 6 hours and is fine.

How long ago?
If we're talking an hour or two, then get him to a vet to be safe or at least call one. If it's been hours or days, he'll be fine.

It probably won't hurt him. My dog once ate our entire stash of easter candy-- foil wrappers and all. Other than very colorful poop, he was fine.
