because one is real and can be evidenced and makes a positive impact on the world, the other is a fairy tale for people who have difficulty coping with reality

Science and spirituality are not mutually exclusive, merely two sides of the same coin.
Just because God used a process that we can glimpse to manifest his Creation does not mean He doesn't exist.
Ancient religious beliefs tell us that we are all One and One with God.
Quantum Mechanics tells us that everything is formed from the same underlying energy field, everything is connected.
Spirituality tells us that God is the original source and pre-existed creation.
Quantum Mechanics tells us that matter is formed when the probability wave is collapsed by the attention of a conscious observer. Consciousness and energy pre-exist matter and act together to bring reality into manifestation.
There is no conflict, except in the minds of dogmatic fanatics on both sides.
There really are answers to the great questions. Answers that make sense, are internally consistent, never rely on the crutch of "faith", reconcile scientific observations with spiritual truths, and provide a fundamental understanding of nature from which observed phenomena can be derived.
You just have to look for them. Seek and ye shall find, knock and the doors will be opened.

Why did people kill people for not believing in one god when they had their own belief system during the Burning Times? The science of the world came about when people evolved to the point where they could think for themselves. Belief systems were aroundfor a long LONG time until the single-god theory came about, and science was around for even longer than that.

Because science offers logical, provable answers to questions. Science almost always provides more than one plausible explanation for a particular problem, or at least keeps searching until it discovers one. Religion dismisses what it can't explain by saying "It's God's will," or "God works in mysterious ways." Science, at least, works to advance knowledge. Religion doesn't want us to search for answers, because we'll discover religion's explanations are usually wrong. Often the only proof the faithful offer for the bible is the bible itself.

Because science is easier. To believe in God requires faith. To believe in science does not, it really doesn't even require thought, you just accept some smart guys ideas on the world and the universe and that is it. Belief in God requires thought and faith. It requires you to decide for yourself how come it makes sense. many times there is no physical proof as there are in science.

First off, science is more logical than God from many points-of-view. Secondly - who's to say God and science aren't linked somehow? Obviously God understands science or we wouldn't be able to figure stuff out.

Many people are quite desperate to not have to believe in God. If they believe in God, then there are things they have to do, and they want to escape and avoid having to have *anyone* tell them what they need to do. Even if it's as simple as being nice to people.
Selfishness is a very powerful force!
So they think that science can explain everything, and they believe that science proves God does not exist (which, ironically is like ancient statues proving that artists don't exist), and they go to great lengths to talk themselves out of having to admit God exists.
Silly, huh?

Because science offers things that people can see, feel, hear taste, touch. We cannot physically put our hands on God in this life. We can only see Him through the visibly blind eyes of faith. Sometimes people have a hard time trusting in things they cannot see.
