Sounds like that means, the more people they convert, the closer to salvation they will be.

Conversion literally means to `Turn around`, so we say in the Catholic church repent and believe in the Good News, to turn away from a sinful life is to co-operate with salvation.

I'll try.

Salvation happened on the Cross on Good Friday. We cannot earn that "health"(salvation is from the Latin "salus" or "health") that Jesus provides. That is all Grace.

The faith we are granted (which is also a gift) leads to salvation (which is 'by grace, through faith, not of works, lest any man should boast') - and it is a process. Conversion is from the Greek "metanoia" - to change - like "metamorphosis".

Paul says "Do not be conformed to this world, but be ye TRANSFORMED, by the renewing of your mind."

That process of renewal is called "conversion".

Well I can tell you this. When a person receives the gift of salvation from Jesus Christ, he is converted. The Bible says that he becomes a new creature. Hope this helps.
