If they won't stay put, I would recommend a gadget I bought called the Duzzit Handy Hanger. It looks like a gun thing and it glues discs onto the wall which you then slide hooks over, to hang pictures or use as you said for cups, towels, etc. The great thing is that when you are leaving, you slide the hook off the disc again, press the gun against the disc and it removes it completely cleanly, leaving no residue. I bought it as I didn't want picture hooks in my freshly re-plastered living room. Ive used them on painted walls, wallpaper and tiles, and all removed cleanly after, no trace left. You could put up a cork board in your room using this, and then stick things onto the board :)

Wet your finger dampen the cup. Hold it on as flat a surface as possible. Hold in place for a minute. If any air gets under it down it comes. Put two or three small dots of super glue around it and it will hold light stuff like towels and nobody will know the difference

They probably fall off cos the surface is uneven or damp. How about a blob of Solvite or something similar, dont put any weight on the hooks for about 24 hours.

CLEAN THE SURFACE,USE A LITTLE SPIT ON THE SUCKER LINE UP AND PRESS FIRMLY.THEY STILL MAY DRY OUT AND FALL AFTER A MONTH OR TWO BUT THATS REASONABLE. (THE SURFACE MUST BE SMOOTH AND NON POROUS:EG TILES /GLOSS PAINT)
