I would be grateful for any serious suggestions here! I live in Glasgow and have a friend coming from Austria for the weekend, on Friday. I really don't know city centre restaurants that are good but not crazily expensive, (no chinese or indian suggestions please - Ive overdosed on them!). So I need suggestions for nice restaurants to go to, and also some pubs that aren't full of 18 yr olds, not that I have anything against them lol but at 42 Id prefer somewhere a bit calmer and older :) I also have some mobility problems and would be interested to hear of any suggestions for a touristy place to take my guest!

I'd say West End or Merchant City. Oran Mor is a fantastic place, and its always impressive for people from out of town. Its the old church at Byres Road/Great Western Road. There is a hill and some stairs leading it up to tho so I'm not sure if thats possible for you but there is definitely wheelchair access. I suppose it depends on your personal situation. Theres Paperino, Antipasti and a few other place up that end of the street too. Of theres, Gandolfi, City Merchant and Smiths in the Merchant City in and around Albion Street.
One thing worth remembering is that this is Black Friday weekend. Because its the weekend when most places are having their Christmas nights out, the town is always really busy. In fact its the busiest weekend of the year for licensed trade so you might want to phone ahead and check how busy places are or expect to be so you know you can get some room and a seat!!
Also, try 5pm.co.uk for cheap pre-theatre deals and discounts for later on. They also have menus for most restaurants so you will be able to judge what you think is most appropriate!

what about gamba? its al a carte is very expensive but it does a great pre theatre menu for a fraction of the price and is very reasonable. the menu is available on line- it tends to use locally sourced products so your friend should like it. there are a lot of nice pubs round about that area and on bath street too. you may want to consider the merchant city as well for a quieter night out. stay away from sauchiehall street!
I'd advise you to book where ever you are going at this time of year. have a good night. x

there is a lovely pub near broomhill. do you know broomhill? its called the craw and its got nice sofas and alcove bits and open fires and its split up into lots of wee rooms and has music on QUIETLY. i live in the southside but love going to sit there for hours during the weekend doing the crossword or just chilling out. They also do little platters of potato skins and stuff for three pound or proper grub like steak pie and veg. i really recomend it

I think Cafe Andaluz is really nice although i`ve only been to the one in the westend but i know they`ve opened another in merchant city.
The food is lovely and it`s not awfully expensive.
Have a nice time wherever you end up,but do stay clear of buffalo joe`s!!LoL.

you should try the bell and the tree at the trongate they do lovely meals,staff are really pleasent {no young ones in there}all your own age and some older.no bother for people with mobility problems at all my daughter is a wheelchair user and she loves it .go and try it out what can you lose.have a gr8 time enjoyyourselves. goodluck.

the west end is your best for entertaining us folk over 18, and there are all sorts of places to eat, have a nice one
