how can i add number in a cell in Excel, eg. cell A1 contains 23, so cell A2 should return 5.?

1) In cell A2 type the following: =A1-18
2) Press Enter.

formula for cell A2 is "=A1-18"

Or, if you don't want to subtract it yourself, you can enter in cell A2 either of these formulas:
=A1-(A1-5)
=SUM(A1-(A1-5))
