everydayc is correct...venial sins do not require confession to a priest, but mortal sins do. however, if you are in danger of imminent death, and there is no priest to confess to , and you are truly sorry, God will forgive you. But if you survive this impending death, you are obligated to go to confession immediately. remember, only God forgives us.

Jesus said "Little children sin not, but if you sin you have an advocate with the Father in Heaven." Meaning when you sin confess it right away, not to wait until you go to confession. The only Mediator between God and man is the Man Christ Jesus, no one else.

Hi Maria. I'm terribly sorry that you are going through such a difficult time. I've personally discovered that the way which is actually helpful, how you can really learn about sins and how they affect our lives, is in the Bible. Please know that I am not trying to offend you if you have a different belief. I am just sharing with you what I know that worked for me. If you read the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) in the New Testament of the teachings of Jesus Christ, He explains clearly what sins are, how important confession and repentance of sin is, and how you can apply His teachings into your own life. Jesus teaches us in a way that is direct, yet truthful - concise, yet comforting and compassionate. I cannot imagine my life without Him in it. I pray that you find the answer to help you with your situation, however you do it.

If you sincerely intended to go to Reconciliation but died before you had the chance, you would be ok.
The key is "before you had a chance". If you commit a mortal sin and said to yourself "Oh, i'll go to Reconciliation next month" and die in the meantime, you may be in serious trouble.

u don't have to go to confession to confess, u have a direct line to god yourself, and can talk to him without the help of someone else. we all must confess and repent our sins, or we may suffer for it later on.i don't believe any sin can be forgiven if not confessed, and repented.

You must confess your sins to God not a priest. And the only "mortal" sin is not believing in Him.
Anyone who says one sin is worse than another to God is lying. Some sins seem bigger to us as humans (say, yelling a curse word versus killng someone) and the consequences of these sins on earth vary. But to God sin is sin. I believe it's the book of Romans that says, "He who is guilty of one point is guilty of them all."
Read the Bible and see. Best, GG.

You poor thing, you are caught up in the Catholic lie. We do not get to Heaven by being good and going to confession.
ROMANS
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
I challenge you to find anyplace in the Bible where people when to one of the apostles and confessed their sins and received absolution. If confession to a priest were really how a person gets to heaven why isn't it in the Bible even once? If it was really the way to heaven it would be repeated in the Bible over and over.

Jesus makes it so much easier. That's the Catholics way. As a believer all you have to do is go to God in prayer and ask for forgiveness in Jesus' name then and there ... you don't have to go to some priest and sit in a booth and wait for the priest to pray for you ... Jesus is right there waiting on you at all times. Man, we make life harder than what it should be.

There is no such thing as sin, and no such place as hell. God does not sit in judgement waiting to punish transgressors.
God does have immutable laws of cause and effect that govern the universe. He allows you to make any choices you want, and he hopes beyond hope that you will make choices that bring you closer to him. However he loves you with a love you can't begin to comprehend and waits with infinite patience for you to finish with your experiences in the physical world so he can welcome you home as a loving parent finally welcomes a wandering child.
You are guaranteed one thing - the eventual return to indescribable joy and infinite love.

Eventually. Bummer about dying on the way, though. Intention counts for Baptism....but not confession.
That's what purgatory is for. Eventually, all will be forgiven.
