I had braces on for 2 years and yes they did push my teeth back in but didnt help a lot and my teeth still are way outside...maybe because when i removed my braces my dentist told me to extract 4 teeth but my mom said no cauz we had to leave the country that same day..my q is that i was given retainers by my dentist a year after i removed my braces and he was like they may help but it's a slim chance...is this true or will they help push my teeth back in?

I think it'll help..It wont get them back to original but its worth a shot. You'll probably have to wear it for a long time before you notice a difference though. Also what kind of retainer is it? i was given a regular one, and then a clear plastic one that was the exact shape of my teeth. if its one of those I'd imagine it'd work a lot faster. Just wear it as often as possible and leave it on as long as possible.

Also the 4 teeth DOES Make a difference. they tell you to remove them because your teeth are over crowded. without taking his advice your teeth will never be perfect. I had to have all 4 wisdom teeth and one regular tooth removed while i had braces on so that my teeth could shift into place. When they remove teeth, the rest of your teeth spread out, then the braces bring them back together so theres no gaps.

It depends on the type of retainer. There are some designed for maintenane of alignment and some that are designed for actually moving your teeth. I have used both kinds. If you have a maintenance retainer, it can help move your teeth back into that position. If you need teeth moved without having braces again (only small movements) another type of retainer can be used to do that procedure.

Retainers keep the teeth in the new position, and prevent them from relapsing to their croaked position. Without retainers the teeth have a tendency to move back to their original position, after the braces are removed.
