(sighs) It's none of the issues above and especially not having the power next to the RCA's (myth).

Get your self a ground-loop isolator and solve all of your problems.

Always run your power wire and rca's down seperate sides of the car (rca's driver's side, power wire pass)That's a main cause .Cheap rca's will pickup the alternator wine always.Change the power wire going from your alternator to your battiery to 4 gauge (it's 10 or 12 now)change change your main ground from your battery to your chassis to 4gauge.insure you sand down paint so there's a good connection, then paint over it so your car doesn't rust.Make sure there is no corrosion on your battery posts. If this doesn't work it's usually the spark plug wires.Remember this "your system is only as good as it's weekest component.RCA's are important.Never use the factory speaker wire always 12ga directly from amp to speakers. If you still get engine noise after changing this stuff then the head unit is picking it up ,it's usually because your using the factory decks ground.Ground your deck dirrectly to the chassis or to the battery,IF it still does it then you know it's the positive lead and you will have to connect the positive lead straight to the battery and the acc to an alternative ignition lead.Sorry for going on put your problem is the most common and difficult problem to diagnose in mobile audio.good luk

The problem is pre-amp, not post-amp.

Make sure you are not floating a ground going into the JBL. 9 times out of 10, this problem is caused because one of your "-" inputs from your head to your JBL has come disconnected. It doesn't have to short to anything to cause the noise.

Check the connections going into the amp.

dont run the power cable of the amp next to the rca cable...if that dont work...try a noise filter...and if that dont work, then ground your rca...
