This is behavior that a lot of people have. It may be a sign of OCD but not always. The best way to not pick it, is to just make the decision to not do it. After a while, you won't feel the need to do it. It will heal and the top part of the scab will just fall away on its own or dissolve in the shower.

I'm a picker, too. I just scratch and pick and pull at anything that shouldn't be there. (TMI, I know...)

This is crazy, but uh... Play-Doh. I need to keep my hands busy doing something else so they leave little skin imperfections alone, that fly away piece of hair attatched to my head, and that finger nail that is just aching to be picked at.

Crochet, knit, play with Play-Doh or clay... pick up a hobbey that will keep your hands busy. Knitting and crocheting are really big and you can do that when you're just sitting around watching TV.

I know sometimes it's hard, though, when you're in class or somewhere where your hobbey isn't... If I realize I'm scratching at my skin I instantly stop and scold myself--in my head, I'm not that crazy to do it aloud. (I am when no one is around but that generally isn't the case.)

You might be stressed and it's a nervous twitch. I pick much more when I'm stressed about anything. Try some stress relief things daily like working out or yoga, nap, herbal teas, bubble bath, candles... relaxing, de-stressing stuff. (I personally found working out to be the best for me.)

I hope those ideas help or give you an idea to help you. I know picking/scratching is no fun and it's not too attractive either.
