I got dentures 2 weeks ago, the first couple of days I also got that "gag" reflex to the point where I couldn't even take the top plate out to clean it. I went back to the dentist and he trimmed the top denture as it was a little long for my mouth, it felt great afterwards, I've gone back a few more times since then for more "trims" on the sides, I'm still not totally comfortable with them and have a few places where they rub a little, but my dentist told me to call him and go back as needed. It sometimes takes a couple of days after a "trim" to see if it solved the issue. I also use Fixodent to hold them in firmly so that I can eat just about anything and the "cushioning" effect really helped from a comfort point of view. Do go back and tell your dentist about your problem, he'll be able to help, that's what he's there for. Just because you have dentures doesn't mean you shouldn't be comfortable. Good Luck!

It shounds like you have a strong gag reflex. I assume that the uppers are giving you the greatest problem. You should consider stabilized dentures. They do not require anything to cover your palet. They are expensive, but you can easily research them on the web. They have taken the place of dental implants in terms of popular "natural" false teeth.

If you can't afford a different option, keep trying your dentures for longer and longer periods each day. Your gag reflex should lessen.

Perhaps your denture plate is too `long`. I understand that if the top plate of the denture goes too far to the back of the `throat`, this can make you `urge`Ask the dentist to check it and maybe take off a little of the `roof plate`.

How long have you had the dentures? You made need some adjustments. My neighbor just got his and loves them, my husband also. Said it was the best thing he did. With proper fit,no problem. Wear longer everyday as a person who has to learn to wear contact lens.

It shounds such as you have a stable gag reflex. i assume that the uppers are providing you with the terrific undertaking. you're able to desire to evaluate stabilized dentures. they don't require something to conceal your palet. they are costly, yet you may actual examine them on the internet. they have taken the placement of dental implants in terms of known "organic" fake enamel. in case you won't be in a position to arise with the money for a different decision, save attempting your dentures for longer and longer sessions daily. Your gag reflex could desire to cut back.

i used to gag on mine - but then i started using the poligrip 'glue' and gluing them in and i don't have any problems any more - sometimes i even forget they are false - sure there are a bit messy to clean every night before soaking them - but if you have running water - that is not a problem - sometimes when i am on an overnight - i even leave them in all night and you can't even tell
