Might sound naive but...while up north (during the summer) with my friend, we met some guys and they asked us how old we were and we told them then they were like so when do you turn 16. I don't know maybe they were jsut asking because they were 16?but isn't there a law that you can't have sex until you're 16? Or am I just making that up? I think they were asking to see if we would be 16 by next summer or something..I'm not sure. If you could just explain that would be great :]

Unlike the person who gave you wrong information earlier and said it is not statuatory rape in most states after you turn 16 I am going to give you the real answer. The age of consent is 16 in most states but it has a exception it is called the 2 year rule. A 16 year old can date and have sex with a 18 year old but not older. A 17 year old can date and have sex with a 19 year old but no older. Thats how the laws in most places read.

Age of Consent. For most of the Western world, age of consent is 16, and sex with anyone under the age of consent can be prosecuted for child sex, and sexual assault. There are 'Romeo and Juliet' clauses if partners are below the age of consent but close in age, as well clauses addressing situations where there was no way of knowing/suspecting someone is below the age of consent - though that is very much dependent on different legal statutes in different places.

Once you reach the Age of Majority (18+ in most Western countries), most of the age related dramas go away.

It depends on the state or country you are in at the time. The laws vary from state to state, and sometimes it depends on the age gap between the individuals in question. Most likely they were asking because they were trying to elicit a reaction from the out-of-state visitors when the prospect of intercourse was brought into play.

the law says, at least in TN, its 18 before you have sex. Before then, if an 18 and a 16 yr old hook up, the 18 yr old can go to jail...
do me a favor- not just for me, but for you---dont have sex until you're married. Its a special gift and dont just give it to anyone...give it to someone you love.

It sounds like they were older than you and your friend and didn't want to get in trouble for dating minors. But if they knew you were just up there visiting and still asked, then they were looking for more than just a date. Beware of those guys...they can get you into a lot of trouble. And they could go to jail for statutory rape. Even if you consented. My advice is to date guys your own age, at least until you are 18. Be careful and blessed be!

In most states, the age of consent is 16. Once a girl is 16 it stops being statuatory rape (a felony) and becomes contributing to the delinquency of a minor (misdemeanor)

if you have to ask then you are not old enough to know the answer, my suggestion is grow up a little bit maybe like 18 or 21 before you start asking questions about sex

Probobly out of curiosity. There's no law when you can have sex, but if you're under eighteen you can't have sex with someone over eighteen but somwhere else I heard in one state I think it's 16 - 24 and all else has to be under eighteen.
